Anton Gustafsson, known by his pseudonym Anton Maiden, was born on February 24, 1980, in Kinna, Västergötland, Sweden. He tragically passed away on November 1, 2003, in Borås, Västergötland, Sweden. Although he achieved only minor celebrity status on the internet, his unique contribution to the music world and his representation of DIY and geek cultures left a lasting impact.

Biography:
Anton Maiden began his online journey by sharing some of his song covers with a small group of friends. Encouraged by their positive feedback, he decided to share a collection of songs with a wider audience in his album titled “Anton Gustafsson tolkar Iron Maiden” in 1999. This album was distributed by the labels Lunacy Records and Nihilism Records.

Anton gained recognition for his distinctive approach to music. He made cover versions of well-known songs by the heavy metal band Iron Maiden, using audio MIDI and MOD formats. His sincere and powerful voice, set against the backdrop of MIDI versions of the original songs, created a unique and captivating musical experience.

Tragically, Anton Gustafsson battled a deep state of depression that ultimately led to his untimely death by suicide on November 1, 2003. His body was discovered in Borås, a week after he had been reported missing.

Before his passing, Anton had an interview with journalist Martin Carlsson for the Swedish newspaper Expressen in June 2000. During the interview, he revealed that some Iron Maiden fans considered his interpretations of the band’s songs as a disgrace. He clarified that such an effect was never his intention. It’s suggested that the growing number of offensive comments left in the guestbook of his personal website may have played a role in influencing his tragic decision.
