Early Life & Education

Poonam Pandit was born into a middle-class farming family in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. Her educational journey began in Meerut, where she completed her schooling. She furthered her education by obtaining a Bachelor’s degree (B.A) and a Master’s degree (M.A) from Gajraula University Venkteshwar.

From a young age, Poonam displayed exceptional talent, catching the eye of her uncle, who was a police officer. Recognizing her potential, her uncle encouraged her to pursue shooting as a sport. Poonam’s journey as a shooter began with admission to a nearby shooting academy, where her dedicated coach, Neetu, played a pivotal role in her training.

However, her family faced financial challenges during her early days of training. To support her passion for shooting, Poonam took on the role of a household worker, displaying her determination to overcome obstacles.

Career as a Shooter

Poonam Pandit’s dedication and hard work in the field of shooting bore fruit when she achieved a remarkable feat by winning a gold medal in shooting competitions held in Nepal. Her commitment to the sport and her remarkable talent propelled her to international recognition.

Social Work

Participation in Kishan Andolan 2020-21

Poonam Pandit’s involvement in social issues further highlighted her determination to make a positive impact. She became widely known for her participation in the Kisan Andolan (Farmers’ Protest) of 2020-21, a significant movement against agricultural reforms introduced by the Government of India.

Poonam Pandit actively lent her voice to the cause, addressing the concerns of Indian farmers. She described the agricultural laws introduced by the central government as a ‘death warrant’ and encouraged fellow farmers to join the protest in Delhi on January 26. Poonam Pandit was born on March 24, 1986, and belongs to a farming family. She comes from a Brahmin caste background and hails from Hasanpur, with her current residence in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. Poonam has shared her early experiences of working on the farm with her mother, reflecting the challenges her family faced due to financial instability.
