Suman Prasad, a distinguished figure in the artistic sphere hailing from Jamshedpur, is celebrated for her transformative journey from an aspiring artist to an accomplished interior designer and wall painting specialist. Her profound impact extends beyond the boundaries of her artistry, reaching into the realms of community empowerment through her dedicated academy and art classes.

Early Life and Career

Born and raised in Jamshedpur, Suman embarked on her artistic endeavors during her schooling at Kadma Girls School. Her educational pursuit led her to graduate in B.Com from Ranchi University. Her journey, however, faced a pivotal moment when the passing of her father in 2010 compelled her to adapt to new responsibilities. Initially joining UNICEF to navigate life’s challenges, she found herself earning a modest income of 5000 rupees. Despite her inclination towards art, circumstances dictated an alternate professional path.

In 2012, Suman transitioned to a role at a media house but found herself at odds with assignments that didn’t align with her passion for painting and design. Her inspiration sparked from an overseas artist she encountered on Facebook during her lunch breaks at the media house, catalyzing a shift in her career trajectory.

Artistic Journey and Professional Evolution

Motivated by the foreign artist’s online presence, Suman delved into wall paintings and showcased her work on social media, particularly on Facebook. Her art garnered attention and admiration, prompting requests for wall paintings from her expanding circle of Facebook friends. Her breakthrough arrived when her story was featured in Prabhat Khabar, drawing widespread interest and recognition in Jamshedpur.

In 2013, Suman founded her own institute, ‘Flamin Art,’ marking her transition into professional artistry. Her distinct style captivated the youth of Jamshedpur, drawing the attention of numerous restaurants and hotels seeking her innovative art for their establishments’ walls.

Contributions and Community Impact

Suman’s influence transcends art; her institute not only showcases her skill in wall painting and interior designing but also nurtures budding talents among young students. In 2020, she organized the ‘Quarantine Contest,’ showcasing hidden talents from Jamshedpur through an online event, receiving participation from over 250 artists across diverse fields.

Recognition and Advocacy

Suman’s tireless efforts have not gone unnoticed. Her impactful contributions in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan earned her recognition from Colonel Neeraj Kumar and the Indian Railways. Acknowledgments from Jusco and accolades such as the ‘Aprajita Samman’ by Prabhat Khabar stand as testament to her commitment to women empowerment and community enrichment.

In a candid conversation with Humans of Jharkhand, Suman expressed her ambition to elevate her art to an international platform through the training she provides to empower the women of Jamshedpur.

Suman Prasad’s resolute dedication to art and community empowerment cements her as a transformative figure in Jamshedpur, leaving an indelible mark on the artistic landscape and women’s advocacy.
