Australia’s women’s cricket team, under the auspices of the International Cricket Council (ICC), has a storied history dating back to 1934. They played their inaugural Test match against England in the 1934–35 season and continue to compete with England biennially for the Women’s Ashes.

In 2003, the Women’s Cricket Australia (WCA) and the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) merged to create a unified governing body, known as Cricket Australia (CA), which continues to oversee the women’s cricket team. CA’s primary goal is to make cricket the premier sport for women and girls in Australia. The performance and visibility of the national team, which benefits from increasingly professional domestic structures like the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) and the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), are pivotal in achieving this ambition.
